According to Techcrunch, the Silicon Valley darling, Pinterest has just reached 11.7 million monthly active users, making it the fastest independent site to reach 10 million.
While there are plenty of online networking and social sharing sites out there for business – this is different – it is about discovery not search , it’s about interests, not friends. Plus it connects with pretty well every networking platform – easily.
Pinterest is already generating more referral traffic to websites than YouTube, Reddit, Google+, and LinkedIn combined.
So for marketers how do you leverage this to bring traffic, leads, and sales etc?
Be interesting, be authentic, post regularly, don’t sell, actively share with your network – are the top 5 pointers for those wanting ROI. But most of all, original content (content is still king!), will deliver the most interest and so traffic. Ultimately you want people to re-pin as the original url stays with the image – so posting images from your latest blog and other interesting “fresh” image content from your website is ideal.
In a way it is similar to twitpics, where you document (with your iphone pics etc) your business activities, meetings, press conferences, travel etc – now you get the chance to do this on steroids because you must make it interesting!
Make sure you feature the Pinterest logo on your site.
